There are 33 Ohio Senate Districts. These are a 4 year term, with 1/2 of the districts up for election every two years. The even numbered districts are coming up for election in 2016, the odd districts come up for election in 2018.
Senate districts criss-cross thru counties, with many counties subdivided into several Senate districts. You need to verify what Senate district your in. A quick way to do this is go to the Secretary of State site, enter your name and county, and it will return your current voter registration information, including you Senate and House districts.
Ballot Requirement – 50 valid signatures from your party and your district,, $85 filing fee.
If the district crosses multiple counties, You file in the most populous county, refer to page 23 of the 2016 Candidate Guide.
Signatures from different counties must be on their own petition, i.e. Lucas county signatures must be on one set of petitions, Wood county signatures must be on their own set of petitions, etc. If counties are mixed on one petition packet, only the signatures from one county will count.
Filing deadline for these seats is currently Dec 16th 2015 for a March 15th, 2016 Primary.
